Outstanding huge figure of an adorable little baby girl surrounded by her best friends ~ a very protective Rottweiler that's almost as tall as her & an equally protective mama kitty cat with her adorable baby kittens, all beautifully sculpted with slightly intaglio eyes and deeply sculpted fur & features throughout, with the beautiful young baby girl's trim of nightgown highlighted with gold gilt, no identifying marks but undoubtedly German in origin, 19th century, 12.0" tall x 9.0" long x 7.0" wide, excellent vintage condition with only one age crack located underneath figurine & extends to dog's left back paw, also there are areas of sediment buildup, common with old bisque porcelain figures of this age, along with a few stray paint specks, all commensurate with a piece this age & in no way detracts from its overall stunning display!
FYI: this same exact piece (btw I think the dog is a Rottweiler instead of a Mastiff, but you be the judge) can be found in the booklet entitled Parlour Fancies: The bisque figurines of Gebruder Heubach; figure 145. It states the following about this exquisite piece:
CHILD AND MASTIFF WITH APRON OF KITTENS 12". A brown-haired baby wearing yellow smock is guarded by a large brown mastiff, a grey tabby cat with bell stands near the bare feet of baby, and in the baby's apron are two mewing kittens. Realistic details of modelling include downcast eyes of baby, appealing expressions on faces of animals, drape of costume. Unmarked, the vignette is in the manner of Heubach characters, but probably by a variant maker. (copy of picture included in sale)
