Fabulous pair of Heubach figures known as the "grape pickers", a lovely Victorian boy & girl whom stand atop self-bases simulating wooded glen, each wearing intricate beige/bronze colored costumes with gold gilt highlights, with him eating the grapes he holds in his hat while she places the grapes into her cornucopia formed from her bonnet, each superbly modeled with haunting doll-like faces (the kind one sees on dolls from the 1800's), complete with deeply intaglio eyes, one-stroke eyebrows, beautifully blushed cheeks, open mouths (he even has perfectly molded upper teeth), deeply sculpted curls, and the same breathtaking attention to detail can be seen throughout ~ superb!, both unmarked but guaranteed to be Heubach, 19th century, each just shy of 13" tall, and each in excellent vintage condition with just a few unnoticeable nibbles to the rims of their individual bases, and also upon close inspection he has had his right arm off at one time with a tiny chip at the very top signifying where it came off, as well he has a bit of peeling paint in the middle of his base. All of which is mentioned for accuracy & is also commensurate for pieces of this age & in no way detracts from their lovely display! By the way, this charming pair can be found in the book Parlour Fancies: the bisque figurines of Gebruder Heubach (copy of picture included in sale).
