Rare 4-group figural of what may be royalty, as the dashing older gentleman bears a striking resemblance to King Henry VIII, and the older lady may be his first wife Queen Catherine along with their daughter Mary I, with the mysterious young lady in the background possibly being one of the famous Boleyn sisters (i.e. either Mary or Anne; both were part of the Queen's royal court; whatever the case, it is magnificent!), superbly modeled & intricately handpainted with colorful lush flowers along with brilliant gold leaf design ~ the carpet itself is a thing of beauty, the labrador type dog adding a homey feeling to the musical setting of the songbook & lute/mandolin, marked on underside of base with a crown & intricate lines (most definitely European in origin ~ German, English, Italian, French or even Russian), circa 19th century (this is an old one), 13.0" long x 11.0" high x 7.25" wide, overall excellent vintage condition with a superior professional repair to both hands of the lady playing the lute/mandolin, the right hand of the lady holding the musical notes, and the top corner of the column next to the gentleman; also there are two typical age cracks ~ one underneath the base & one behind the girl sitting down ~ all of which is commensurate with the age of this piece and does not detract from this rare magnificent historical grouping! By the way, the lace is original to the piece & is the real thing, not porcelain, but real lace!
